"Ardsilla"

Country charm steeped in history

5 Richard Street, Bourke

Offers Over: $430,000

This tastefully renovated building is an excellent example of an ornate late nineteenth century home.

Built in the 1890’s it is one of the most significant, historical residences in the Bourke township. The building is steeped in history and has strong links with the general story of Bourke having been built for a prominent businessman and hotel owner, William Gale. Previously known as “Brigalow”, it became a private hospital in 1938 and has also served as a Doctors Surgery to a number of Doctors. The property was in poor condition and at one stage the Council proposed demolition but in the early 1980’s the building was purchased by Dr. David and Jenny Sutherland who lovingly restored and used the premises as a private residence until they left town.

Since then one previous owner sought council approval to operate a Bed & Breakfast. Approval was given and the property became the Ardsilla Bed & Breakfast and remained so for a couple of years. As such the house is complete with emergency lighting in case of fire or blackouts.

The house now a private residence and is full of country charm from it’s polished floor boards and high ceilings to the bullnosed verandahs. 3 of the 5 bedrooms open out onto the verandah and one has an ensuite. The kitchen is both modern and functional and the main bathroom is large and luxurious. There are split system airconditioners located throughout the house as well as an open fireplace in the formal lounge and wood fire in the dining room.

The shaded pool and paved outdoor area are ideal for entertaining. There has been a recent addition of a 6 mtr. x 8 mtr. garage/workshop with power connected and concrete floor.
