Nestled in the picturesque Manning Valley NSW, 'Woodside House' c1839, is the oldest Georgian timber residence still standing in the Manning River District. The original land was surveyed in 1835 and the house built with convict labor about 1839.

This majestic house speaks volumes about its past with evidence of its preservation being a testimony to its proud owners, in maintaining the heritage of its original condition, including hand-sawn timbers, convict-made nails and bricks.

Whilst various owners over more than one hundred and sixty-nine years have made their own renovations, the present owners bought the house with the specific view to restoring it in keeping with its original style. This has led to the Greater Taree City Council awarding the current owners of 'Woodside House' the 'GTCC Biennial Heritage Award 2006', under the Residential and Rural Structures category, for excellence in the Conservation of a Historical Building or Structure.

The central part of the Historic Woodside House consist of walls, ceilings and doors pit-sawn & adzed by convicts into 28-33cm wide panels from natural cedar on the property.

The Wingham Chronicle published "A Peep Into the Past - Woodside House" by C.D. on July 16th 1937. This article is worth including here:

"Few wooden buildings in this district have survived the elements for over a century, and are in such a good state of preservation as "Woodside House", situated between Wingham and Mount George"

The wide open hallway provides access to two of the original bedrooms, which are quite spacious, with the main bedroom featuring French doors that open to the covered verandah, whilst the second bedroom includes a separate study/office area.

A formal dining room has all the character and warmth that one would expect of a house from c1839. With plenty of room for a generous dining table, side-board table and the built-in bookcase, the dining room retains the original timber flooring.

The main lounge room features a beautiful fireplace made of convict bricks (hidden behind the stucco work) and has the modern convenience of a combustion fire. The original cedar mantle piece remains in place and French doors open onto the covered rear verandah.

At the northern end of the house is a large country style kitchen. The fireplace, made from convict bricks, takes centre stage, however other outstanding features include; black granite bench tops, white French fire clay sink, plate and wine racks and pull-out pantry. The kitchen has been redesigned to cater for modern needs whilst being sympathetic to the past era. French doors open out to the verandah, which wraps around and across the front of the house.

The southern end of the house has the 'old post office' bedroom, so named as the room was the Woodside Post Office from 1867-1916. The bedroom still has the original 'post office' beech entrance door, with polished floors, painted timber lined walls and ensuite completing this bedroom.
Also at this southern end, the bright and airy 'guest quarters' features an enormous size room which can easily accommodate a king size bed suite, lounge, TV cabinet and other furniture. Restored in keeping with the era of the home, the 'guest quarters' allows separate side access as well as internal access, its own verandah and a complete ensuite.

The main bathroom is again of generous size, and has been completely restored and offers; decorative blue and red gum polished flooring, spacious shower to accommodate wheelchair access, freestanding claw bath, old style pull chain ceramic cistern complete with brass plumbing and even has enough room for a side cupboard. Timber lined walls and ceiling complement this bathroom.

The property surrounds have been meticulously maintained, and includes features that can be appreciated on inspection - including double garage and workshop, separate utilities shed.
Water supply to the house is filtered from an unground well and water tanks.
Other improvements include; tree lined driveway, dam, established native tree gardens and over 30 fruit bearing trees.

A 10m x 5m saltwater swimming pool and shed is fully enclosed with safety fencing and is easily accessed from the rear veranda.

The utilities area consists of an Aerated Sewage Treatment Plant (including waste water reticulation) and clothes line, tastefully concealed by a rose covered wall.

'Woodside House' is nestled on a picturesque 5.6 hectare (15 acres) property and is currently a licensed tea house which offers both large coach and car parking.

The current owners have not actively pursued the untapped tourism potential that 'Woodside House' offers.
Opportunities also exists for a potential 'Bed and Breakfast' accommodation, as well as Cabins, Wedding Receptions, business conferences etc (subject to GTCC approval). The 'Post Office' bedroom and 'Guest Quarters' have separate entrances and ensuites.

Historic Woodside House has been lovingly restored, creating a beautiful property that will appeal to many - especially those who appreciate living history.
