The Victorian villa, "Glenwood", significant as part of the original Wickham Estate, was built in a prominent location on the original Rocky Point Road alignment. The villa is significant as a rare example of a grand, symmetrical house with an unusual captain's walk above the gabled timber entrance and highly unusual timber detailing on the verandah and balcony.

In 1998, the villa was extensively restored and the rear service wing was demolished to make way for apartments built to the rear and to the south. The villa has now been turned into two side by side units. In 2000 Glenwood was named Historic House of the Year by Rockdale Council.

Our home comprises 2 thirds of the original villa and includes the grand entry and stairway, lounge/reception room opening onto a large dining/kitchen area with period style modern timber and granite kitchen. Upstairs there are 3 large bedrooms with balconies off 2 and a period style bathroom. A further flight of stairs takes you to a huge attic/storage area and the stairs leading up to the magnificent Captain’s walk where views of the city, airport and Botany Bay can be gained. The hallway and ground level balconies at front and rear of the house have original tiles in excellent condition as is the polished timber flooring throughout the home. While feature such as the decorative iron and lattice detail surrounding the large balconies, the 4 marble fireplaces and 12 foot ceilings with original ceiling roses exude the charm and grandness of the Victorian era it is only minutes from modern conveniences such as shops, train and airport.

We absolutely love this house and are reluctantly leaving as our circumstances have changed. It is a very comfortable home with spacious interiors and a delightful easy care garden which provides privacy and shading.
